The Conservation Department of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (ATC) ensures the permanent protection and stewardship of Appalachian Trail Lands (ATC lands) and Appalachian National Scenic Trail lands (National Park Service lands) and their associated resources through effective implementation of a cooperative management system involving ATC, Trail-maintaining clubs, and public-agency partners.
The incumbent will develop a series of videos about Baxter State Park and the 100-mile section of the A.T. between Monson, ME and Baxter Park in order to educate long distance hikers about these popular A.T. destinations. The videos will be used in the Monson A.T. Visitor Center and will be available online. The Visitor Center’s core mission is to address the increased popularity of the Appalachian Trail in northern Maine and Baxter State Park, concerns with hiker behavior, and to support the growing ecotourism industry in the Moosehead Lake region
The incumbent will be expected to work together with the Maine Program Manager and Baxter State Park staff to develop accurate and educational videos. They will also be expected to work cooperatively with other Appalachian Trail Conservancy staff, Maine Appalachian Trail Club volunteers.
The incumbent will have the opportunity to engage creatively with a complex issue, to work with professionals in the fields of resource and visitor use management and to create a product that will help to protect a national recreation resource.
Location of the internship is flexible, but the incumbent will be expected to travel to Baxter State Park, Monson, Maine and Farmington, Maine for meetings and video shooting. Incumbent must have access to their own filming equipment and video editing software. They also must have access to a personal vehicle although mileage driven for the internship will be reimbursed.
